Description
Care
For such a small fish, Aphyocharax paraguayensis show a very high level of aggression and are intimidating to other species. Within the confines of an aquarium they will continually bully and fin-nip other species - even those considerably larger than themselves. They are therefore best maintained in a species-only aquarium, and make for a really stunning sight when kept in large shoals within a heavily planted aquarium. The tank should be at least 3ft long because of their active nature.
Feeding
Will accept most small sized aquarium foods e.g. flake, micropellets and frozen foods such as daphnia, cyclops and baby brineshrimp.
Breeding
There are not many accurate reports concerning successful aquarium spawnings of White Spotted Tetras, perhaps because of the likely miniscule size of the fry. It has been said that to induce spawning, a conditioned pair should be added to a softwater breeding tank (< 4dH) with a pH< 6.0. A large partial water change of up to 40% can trigger the fish into spawning among fine-leaved plants.
