What was your first aquarium and what fish did you keep in it?
I had a beautiful nature pond in my garden.
What species do you most enjoy keeping and why?
Corydoras catfish for sure - I think they add a lot of character to a fish tank plus there are so many species to choose from.
What pearl of wisdom would you give to first-time Fish keepers?
Where to place your fish tank. A lot of people who start out tend to place their tank in front of a window or a door and later suffer with a lot of algae problems. Also, its important to allow room for equipment etc in the cabinets.
What would be your dream aquarium?
My dream aquarium will be something like a big American Large Mouth Bass tank as I think they are just awesome fish. But, recently having visited an aquarium in Ireland, where they had a big rainbow trout tank with lots of flow and rock work, I loved that display I might be persuaded to them instead.
What’s your favourite aspect of work at Maidenhead Aquatics?
You generally meet some really nice people along the way and learn a lot whilst chatting with them.
What question do customers ask you most often?
What sized tank do you need for a nemo fish? Honestly drives me mad!
What’s your secret fishkeeping “top tip”?
Time and patience - don’t rush anything and ask for advice when buying fish or products.
How many aquariums do you currently keep at home, and what are these?
Currently 8 fish tanks and a pond but I do need to downsize soon.
What do you think is the future of fishkeeping and what developments would you most like to see?
I’m not sure but I hope that the future is bright and its always nice to sell smaller tanks to people who are just getting into the hobby.
What’s the most unique species you’ve ever cared for at Maidenhead Aquatics?
100 percent a cross hatch trigger - absolute awesome fish
What is it that first got you hooked on fishkeeping?
My dad as he had always kept fish and I’ve always wanted to keep different fish to the species he had.
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned since joining Maidenhead Aquatics?
The difference between keeping fish at home to on a shop floor.
