Seachem Prime is a dechlorinator, chloramine remover, and ammonia detoxifier (but allowing the filter to consume the ammonia, so removing it); it also binds heavy metals, increases the fishes slime coat, helps with the removal of nitrate, all whilst being completely safe for marine use.
As Seachem Prime neutralises chlorine and chloramines, ammonia is formed as a side product, this happens with all dechlorinators. Prime has a unique benefit in that it neutralises the ammonia, but crucially, leaves it available for the tank bacteria to digest.
Also present in tap water are any number of highly toxic heavy metals, which Prime detoxifies and leaves them completely safe. Seachem Prime is non-acidic and will not change the pH
When used during water changes on established tanks, it's unique formula also helps in the reduction of nitrates, often a common problem on older tanks and increasingly a problem in some water areas, even for new systems.
If Seachem prime is used in a marine system, it will not cause the skimmer to either over produce foam or stop the skimming process, a critical factor to take into account for marine use.
The inclusion of essential ions within the formula will naturally encourage the fish to produce excess slime coating, it doesn't simply 'add a coating' to the fish, rather it boosts the fishes own natural defences.
1 capful (5 ml) treats 200 L of water
For smaller volumes, please note each cap thread is approximately 1 mL. May be added to aquarium directly, but better if added to new water first. If adding directly to aquarium, base dose on aquarium volume. Sulfur odor is normal.
