Arum italicum is a herbaceous perennial that prefers shady areas of the garden. The leaves are arrow-head-shaped and these give way to a cowl-shaped yellowish spathe with a yellow spadix during May to June. The flower is then followed by an upright cluster of showy red berries. It is tolerant of most types of soil, but it should be positioned in a shady area that is moist but well-drained. Please note that all parts of this plant are highly toxic by ingestion and it is also a skin irritant, so wear protective gloves when planting. This plant requires no pruning and is usually disease and pest free. Propagate by division of the clumps of tubers once flowering has finished.
