Care
The Bicolour Blenny is anattractive bottom dwelling species known from clear lagoons and seaward reefswith mixed corals and algae covered rocks. These fascinating, captivating fishrequire a mature aquarium with a sandy substrate and plenty of live rock tohide amongst and perch on. A spacious, well established tank will ensure anongoing supply of natural microalgae for the Bicolour Blenny to graze upon.Some specimens may take a liking to certain coral species, so observecarefully. This is not so much of a problem if the fish is kept well fed andhoused in larger quarters, where attention is spread amongst a large number ofcorals and so damage to any one piece would be minimal and recovery quick. TheBicolour Blenny is usually a fairly peaceful tank inhabitant, but can be veryterritorial to members of its own kind, closely related species, or small,placid bottom dwellers such as gobies and firefish. For this reason it is bestto keep one specimen per tank, unless you can acquire a mated pair. Theaquarium must have tight fitting coverslides as these fish are expert jumpers.The Bicolour Blenny occurs in three geographic colour forms: one blue-blackanteriorly and yellow-orange posteriorly, the others blue-black dorsally with abroad white lateral band and dusky belly, and either a clear or yellow tail.
Feeding
Herbivorous. This species doesbest if a decent growth of microalgae is present in the aquarium for the fishto browse at its leisure. Also offer plenty of vegetable matter, includingfrozen foods that contain marine algae and Spirulina. Nori (dried seaweed),algae flake and algae wafers formulated for marine fish are usually met withmuch enthusiasm. If you have space in a well lit sump, microalgae can becultured on pieces of rock, and occasionally rotated with some of the pieces inthe main display aquarium.
Breeding
Bicolour Blennies have spawnedin the home aquarium, although raising the young is extremely challenging. Inthe wild this species forms distinct pairs and adhesive eggs are laid in acrevice which is then guarded.
