Equipped with defensive tail spines to protect themselves against predators, these incredible creatures are related to sharks and have some important distinctions from bony fish. When kept well, rays are very hardy animals – useful given their intolerance of some commonly used aquarium medications.
Given their size, these are fishes for a large aquarium with plenty of open sandy areas. Freshwater stingrays give birth to live pups and are frequently bred in captivity, with many of our stores producing young on a regular basis.
