A huge family of fishes, Gobies are mostly marine but have successfully conquered some freshwater habitats.
Many gobies are found in environments linked to the sea. Some spend a larval period in marine habitats before migrating upstream in a similar way to salmon, whereas others have adapted to live in freshwater their entire lives. Others have championed a very alternative lifestyle, with Mudskippers preferring to spend their time out of water!
Their diversity makes research vital and some make great additions to the right aquarium, with species such as the Peacock gudgeon the perfect choice for community life.
