Maidenhead Aquatics Fish Labels User Guide.

On each of our stock tanks you will find one of our helpful fish labels that contains information about the nature of the fish, feeding recommendations, maximum size, compatibility, and temperature requirements.

Each label has a QR code that links through to a detailed portfolio of that species giving you all the information you need to care for the fish. Use our databank to discover the fish you may see in our stores.

Below is a breakdown of what each compatibility term means:

Community - This species can be kept alongside other peaceful tankmates in a community aquarium.

Community with no small fish - Keep this species with tankmates that are too large to swallow.

Community with no long-finned fish - This fish is liable to nip long-finned tankmates such as Guppies, Bettas or Angelfish but can be successfully kept alongside most other community species.

Community with caution - This fish can be kept in a community aquarium although some individuals may become aggressive when kept with inappropriate tankmates.

Large fish community - This fish should be kept with tankmates of a similar size.

Specialist community - This species has specific requirements which make it unsuitable for the average community set up such as water chemistry, temperature, or behaviour. Scan the QR code on the fishes’ label or ask a member of staff for more details.

Non-community - This species should be housed in a separate aquarium due to their aggressive or predatory nature or specialised care requirements.

Tanganyikan cichlid community - This fish is best kept alongside other Tanganyikan species in hard, alkaline water.

Malawi cichlid community - This fish should be housed with other members of the Peacock and Hap group in a large aquarium with hard, alkaline water.

Mbuna cichlid community - This fish should be housed with other rock-dwelling Malawi cichlids in a hardwater aquarium that provides plenty of hiding places.

Fancy goldfish community - This fish should be kept alongside other fancy goldfish in a large, well-filtered aquarium.

Hazard symbol – These species are venomous and should be handled with care
